Media Project Status Report

CEAP’s media project was proposed during the May 7, 2008 Meeting at Cubberly by Mid-Peninsula Media Center’s Executive Director, Annie Folger. That evening Lorna Fear volunteered to produce the series and on August 29, Lauren Bonar Swezey was selected as Co-Producer.

Green Takes... Action! It’s not just a basic truth; it’s the name of CEAP’s media project television series. With generous underwriting by Mid-Peninsula Media Center and Palo Alto Research Center, the first show was taped on December 3 and began airing on December 8. In January of 2009, City of Palo Alto granted $2,400 to underwrite ten episodes, making it possible to cover all eleven of CEAP’s stated environmental action topics:

  • Water
  • Lifestyle
  • Education
  • Transportation
  • Green Buildings
  • Waste Reduction
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Agriculture & Food
  • Renewable Energy
  • Pollution and Toxins
  • Sustainable Landscaping

Green Takes ... Action! provides news, tips, examples and demonstrations that help residents reduce their energy use.

The project furthers many of CEAP’s goals and is the embodiment of goal number three.

  1. Identify and implement top-priority environmental initiatives with measurable objectives.
  2. Educate and engage each segment of the community in environmental initiatives that fit their needs.
  3. Create a vehicle for communication, education and awareness among the City and all segments of the community.
  4. Leverage resources and actions among segments by aligning and coordinating efforts.
  5. Connect with expertise, input and initiatives from the community and beyond to inform, improve and inspire innovative ideas and programs.
  6. Track and report progress toward objectives to the community.

To date, three half-hour episodes have been aired:

Governments and Transportation: Episode 1, High Speed Rail

Mayor Drekmeier and Rod Diridon discuss developments and benefits.

Businesses and Lifestyle: Episode 2, Green Zebra Discount Coupon Booklet

Recipient of Acterra’s Business Environmental Award provides discounts to green businesses.

Non-Profits and Energy Efficiency: Episode 3, Acterra’s Green@Home Program

This non-profit organization for a sustainable earth provides free home-energy audits.

Looking forward to the Spring Season we will feature sustainable landscaping, green buildings, and agriculture and food.

  • The Green Fork Project
  • A Green Makeover
  • East Palo Alto Farmers’ Market

“A Green Makeover” has been selected by Media Center for entry in the Green Light Film Festival.
