CEAP Neighborhoods Pilot Project- Zero Waste Party Pack (ZWPP) for Neighborhoods To Share (start date October 19, 2008)
- This pilot project is a collaboration with CEAP Neighborhoods/Homes and City of Palo Alto Zero Waste Program. The Zero Waste Party Pack's purpose is to replace disposables for meetings, gatherings, parties, etc. For people that have occasional gatherings, having a set of dishes and storing them, or renting dishes may be impractical. Having the ability to borrow dishes may help people take action to reduce their use of disposables. Also, borrowing the ZWPP will save money because people won't have to purchase disposables.
- The Zero Waste Program has funded the purchase of the supplies for the ZWPP pilot.
- The ZWPP pilot neighborhood is Barron Park, with borrowing extended to CEAP Neighborhood members also, to start.
- The ZWPP will be available for people to borrow for 2-3 days.
- There is no charge to borrow the ZWPP, just the commitment to return it on time, clean and in its entirety.
- The ZWPP serves 24 people and includes a tablecloth, plates, bowls, cups, utensils, and cloth napkins. The supplies are contained in a storage tub for easy transport and storage.
- A brief survey is included in the ZWPP to provide feedback.
- Pilot period is 10/9/2008 - 12/9/08. If the pilot is successful then a ZWPP could be available to each Palo Alto Neighborhood. The goal would be to have a ZWPP for every neighborhood to share and a volunteer point person in each neighborhood to manage the borrowing.
- Reducing waste is consistent with the community's Zero Waste to landfills goal and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This project meets a CEAP Neighborhoods goal of reaching individual households to take simple actions.
- Below is a photo of a place setting from the ZWPP and photo showing the colors the dishes.
