Green Event Guides
Guidelines proposed by Gunn High School Green Team - "These are suggestions to help you incorporate more green, environmentally friendly actions while planning Gunn events. You may not be able to apply all suggestions in your event, but try to incorporate some new items each time to progressively improve the sustainability of events at Gunn."Gunn Green Event Guidelines.doc Gunn Green Event Guidelines.pdf
Palo Alto Sustainable Schools
Environmental action in Palo Alto schools, public and private, serves two purposes:
- making our schools more "green"
- teaching an ethic of environmental responsibility to our children.
City of Palo Alto Recycling Program School Green Team Support
The City of Palo Alto Recycling Program has recently retained a consultancy, Strategic Energy Innovations, to assist in setting up "Green Teams" at schools which are themselves "sustainable"-- that is, able to continue year after year even as individuals move in and out of the team. This wiki is one tool that individual Green Teams can use to publish their accomplishments, as well as to learn from one another.
Alternative Commutes to Schools
The CEAP team is seeking an easy, secure online mapping tool (sw, development assistance, advice) to help parents coordinate biking and walking groups, carpools and encourage bus use as an alternative to driving cars driving to school each day. Some district schools are piloting different approaches starting with paper maps to facilite the coordination process for parents/kids in the fall '08. We are looking for help as advertised here.
Current commute share services under consideration: In the interest of identifying and selecting a web based carpooling registry or service, a list of services to consider is at Carpooling software solutions to consider. The school pool choice may be the best off the shelf fit of these and would cost about $700 to start & $300/mo to maintain to use as is (power point on Viva Commute) , link to VivaCommute/SchoolPool for PA schools (according to the vendor, Viva Commute). They could develop a custom application for approximately $4000 (application and acquire the necessary GIS databases for Palo Alto) + $600/mo. to host and maintain the application and Internet URLs.
